Blog Post #20
This past week has gone surprisingly smooth. As the semester is coming to an end in the next few weeks, I have to really focus on finishing strong. In ceramics, things have been turning pretty good so far. All of my pieces survived the bisque, which is the part I am always most worried about. Since every piece survived, the next step is glazing and wood-firing. I am super excited about glazing everything! I went to Kentucky Mudworks in Louisville for the first time and picked

Well, hello there! It’s been a little bit since my last update. Within the last few weeks so many things have happened, especially in ceramics. It has been a busy semester but very interesting. I’ve gotten some great opportunities and have learned so much. One of the opportunities I had was to join my ceramics class to the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts conference (NCECA) in Detroit, Michigan! At this conference, I met so many new people and gained so much

Long time no see! I feel like I have been away for ages! I do sincerely apologize to all of my followers for my absence, unfortunately, I was down with the sickness for a while (and not in a cool, Disturbed kind of way). This has set me back more than what I was hoping. I was not expecting to be away from my work for this long. However, I am ready to get back to work! Being out has given me the opportunity to revise my previous ideas and come up with new ones that feel more i

Another week has passed since my last post and I have some fun updates to share! The main thing I want to share is my venture into the world of 3D printing and digital modeling. Personally, I have never been a huge fan of making digital art. I have always found it to be frustrating and very confusing. But, after watching some demos and giving it a little time, I was able to come up with some ideas and models for tools to use in some of my ceramics work. I am mostly excited ab

This past week at school has felt a little frustrating. I feel like I am behind on my work because I haven’t been able to give it the time it needs. I haven’t gotten much done in ceramics, unfortunately. This is because I wasn’t feeling motivated with any of the ideas I had came up with. No matter how much I tried to push through, there was nothing that sparked any excitement. So, I decided to take a new approach. Instead of forcing it, I have come up with some new ideas that

A week has passed, and I do not have much work to report as far as my first project goes. However, I have been brainstorming new ideas. One of my classmates, Hailey Pereyra, gave me some very helpful advice that I can apply to my work. She makes these incredibly impressive ceramic sculptures of people that I have always been interested in. With Hailey’s advice, I am wanting to try out sculpting a bust. It does seem slightly intimidating, but I think I could give it a shot! Th

Well, not much happened this past week, unfortunately. The weather has not been too kind in my opinion. I was hoping to have a good start on my first projects of the semester, but snow has put a damper on my plans since classes were canceled and I couldn’t really leave home. Because of this, I feel like I am already behind, which is sort of stressful; however, this time off has given me the opportunity to revisit some of my ideas that I had originally came up with. I have bee

The first couple of weeks of the semester have already gotten off to a great start, and I’m feeling really optimistic about where things are headed! For our first ceramics assignment, we were asked to create our own tools using materials like epoxy, nails, wire, and super glue. This semester, we will be making tools from unconventional materials and seeing how they could be transformed into something functional. For the first project, we designed tools that could be used for

As the ceramics semester has come to an end, I’ve been thinking about how much I’ve learned along the way. This class really helped me figure out what I want to say with my work, both in terms of ideas and overall direction. Getting my hands in the clay week after week made the process feel more intuitive and personal. I really felt the creativity and inspiration with my work this semester. I also had a lot of fun experimenting with different styles and letting myself try thi

The end of the semester has finally arrived and I am happy to say that I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish! Although I have had some difficult moments, I was able to get through it all and get to a place where I can actually take a breath. In my last blog post, I had mentioned wetware cutoff in my ceramics class. I was nervous that I would not complete my final piece before this cutoff, and definitely not before the final firing of the semester. But, with just e

I can say that this past week has been a success. Not only have I completely assembled my final project for ceramics, but I also got the chance to participate in the wood-firing process for the semester! Starting off with my final piece—it has turned out to be my favorite piece I have made all semester. All that is left is to pick out the glazes I want to work use. I have been shopping around and trying to come up with something that not only looks cool, but also displays the

For this past week, I can genuinely say that I am very proud of the progress I have made! In general, I have caught up on a lot of the projects I have been working on, and everything has been going to plan. In ceramics this week, I have gotten quite a bit done on my final project! Not to jinx myself, but I think I will be able to get everything assembled and ready for wetware cutoff coming up! This project has been so much fun to work on and has allowed me to experiment with

The last few weeks have been very eventful, in both school and my personal life. But, I have reached a point where I feel like everything is trying to fall into place. I have previously been worried that I have fallen behind on my work at school. Between three studio classes, online classes, work, and everyday life, it’s been difficult for me to keep up. But things seem to be mellowing out, especially in the past week. In ceramics, I have gotten a lot of things accomplished.

This week has been very productive for me. I was able to work on multiple projects for all of my classes. I finally feel like I am catching up, which feels great! For a moment, I was worried that I was falling too far behind. Luckily, I was able to put some extra work in this past week to get to a point where I no longer feel the pressure of having too many things going on. For ceramics, I am currently working on two projects. The first project is based on choosing an article
