The last few weeks have been very eventful, in both school and my personal life. But, I have reached a point where I feel like everything is trying to fall into place. I have previously been worried that I have fallen behind on my work at school. Between three studio classes, online classes, work, and everyday life, it’s been difficult for me to keep up. But things seem to be

mellowing out, especially in the past week.

In ceramics, I have gotten a lot of things accomplished. My piece that I have mentioned in my previous blog post is near completion. All I have left to do is get it in the kiln and add a clear glaze to it. I am very excited to see how the finished product turns out. I’ve added some pictures below to show the progress. I have very high hopes for the final result!

Also, I have began working on my next project. For this next project, I am tapping into memories from my childhood. I wanted to create a piece that not only means a lot to me, but also allows me to take my feelings and emotions from my memories and make it tangible. For this piece, I am creating a lava lamp. Although a lava lamp may seem like a playful and nostalgic item from many people’s childhood, it holds a great amount of meaning for me. Lava lamps transport me back to a time when I would lay in bed and watch the blobs float weightlessly in the illuminated lamp. I would lay and think about everything; from what’s happening in school, or my relationships with my family and friends, or even dreaming about the future. Lava lamps allowed me the opportunity to be alone with my thoughts and finding comfort in them. So I am very excited to bring this idea to fruition and be able to display my memories and feelings in a way that can resonate with my audience. Below is a sketch of what I am trying to achieve. I will update with my progress in the next blog post!
