Blog Post #16

This past week at school has felt a little frustrating. I feel like I am behind on my work because I haven’t been able to give it the time it needs. I haven’t gotten much done in ceramics, unfortunately. This is because I wasn’t feeling motivated with any of the ideas I had came up with. No matter how much I tried to push through, there was nothing that sparked any excitement. So, I decided to take a new approach. Instead of forcing it, I have come up with some new ideas that I would genuinely be excited to bring to life. I felt like these new ideas align more with my interests and creative identity. Making the decision to change directions this far into the semester is bold, but I am willing to try!
For ceramics, I’ve also been brainstorming ideas for new tools I could make to use in class. After successfully creating a few tools, I feel more comfortable and eager to create more! The process of using the power tools and the 3D software wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be. So, I definitely will be using them for some of these tools. I feel like designing tools to fit a specific process will open me up to a world of textures, forms, and techniques I have yet to venture into.
The highlight of the past week has been that I finally have a studio space set up! I can’t even explain how excited it am to have this space. Having a dedicated workspace that I can use at any time feels like a huge turning point for my creativity. I needed a space that was just for me, where I can focus, experiment, and fully dive into my work. This space gives me the motivation that I’ve been looking for. Everything seems to be coming together and I am looking forward to seeing what the next week brings!
