Blog Post #11
The end of the semester has finally arrived and I am happy to say that I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish! Although I have had some difficult moments, I was able to get through it all and get to a place where I can actually take a breath. In my last blog post, I had
mentioned wetware cutoff in my ceramics class. I was nervous that I would not complete my final piece before this cutoff, and definitely not before the final firing of the semester. But, with just enough time, I was able to get everything done and nearly ready for our final critique!
My last piece for the semester (the lava lamp I mentioned in my previous blog post), is the only one I am waiting to see the final results of. For this piece I decided to experiment with mixing my own glazes for the first time. I made three colored glazes that were mixed with clear. I was going for a bright red, orange, and black. Unfortunately, they did not turn out as vibrant as I was hoping for; but, that is alright. I decided to not use these glazes just because it was not exactly the look I was going for. Instead, I used some of the premixed glazes that we have available in the ceramics studio; which I am very curious to see how it turns out after it comes out of the kiln. Even though I did not use the glazes I made, I did save the samples and recipes so I can use them or make changes to them for my next semester in ceramics. Overall, learning how to make my own glazes was a very fun process, and I look forward to trying it again!
All that I have left to do is the final critique. I am very excited to share my work with my peers and get some feedback for things that I can work on in the future. Below, I added pictures of my two first projects from the semester and my lava lamp that has been glazed, which I am waiting to get out of the kiln. This semester has been amazing and I have learned so much! I cannot wait to see what the next semester brings!
