Blog Post #3
This week, unfortunately, started off with some frustration. My geometric ceramics project was not turning out how I would hope. Honestly, it wasn’t even close to what I envisioned. So, I decided that instead of trying to save what I had already done, I would just start fresh (and I can’t really tell if that was a terrible idea or not). Although this has set me behind an entire week of work, I feel like I’ve made progress with the different direction I took.
Instead of using the extruded tubes I mentioned in my previous post, I hand built cylinders that I am going to attach together to create the curved pieces from my sketch. The idea is to build these pieces pretty thick, that way I can take away some of the clay to smooth it out and carve it into the shape I am looking for. Next, I am going to hand build some spheres by making two pinch pots and putting them together. The only part I haven’t figured out yet is how to put all of these pieces together to actually bring my idea to life. Hopefully, I will figure it out by my next blog post! Stay tuned…
