A week has passed, and I do not have much work to report as far as my first project goes. However, I have been brainstorming new ideas. One of my classmates, Hailey Pereyra, gave me some very helpful advice that I can apply to my work. She makes these incredibly impressive ceramic sculptures of people that I have always been interested in. With Hailey’s advice, I am wanting to try out sculpting a bust. It does seem slightly intimidating, but I think I could give it a shot! The best thing about clay is that if it doesn’t look good, I can keep changing it until I’m happy with it!

Also, this past week, we had the opportunity to meet two amazing artists, Ellen Kleckner and Linda Tien. We got to watch them demonstrate how they make tools, and how they come up with ideas for their work. They talked about who they were, their personal journeys with their work, and the importance of collaboration. I think the biggest takeaway for me was how tools can come from anything. If you have an idea for a tool, or just messing around with supplies, you can create something that is not only unique, but an extension of the creative process and the beginning of endless possibilities. I am so happy I had the chance to watch these two artists work. I featured photos of some of the tools they shared with the class. I was definitely inspired to recreate some of the tools they showed.

Hopefully, next week will be full of progress. I am still excited about some of my ideas and look forward to working!
