The first couple of weeks of the semester have already gotten off to a great start, and I’m feeling really optimistic about where things are headed! For our first ceramics assignment, we were asked to create our own tools using materials like epoxy, nails, wire, and super glue.  This semester, we will be making tools from unconventional materials and seeing how they could be transformed into something functional. For the first project, we designed tools that could be used for texture and/or scoring in future projects, which I feel like will make the process both practical and creative. (Below are pictures of my tools). I’m so excited to see how these handmade tools influence my work moving forward!

Thinking about my first major project , I have a lot of ideas floating around and many sketches, but my main focus is to push myself creatively. I want to really challenge my usual habits, experiment more, and allow myself to take more risks with my work. Having these custom tools already makes the process feel more personal and encourages me to take new approaches.

One of the most exciting parts of this semester so far is that I now have my own studio space to work in! Having a dedicated area to create feels incredibly motivating and makes me even more eager to spend time experimenting and refining my ideas. Overall, the semester has started off really strong, and I’m genuinely excited to see how my work develops as the weeks go on! I will be updating in the next post, so stay tuned!
