The first week of a new semester makes me feel like I am starting completely over. Everything I learned from my previous classes seems to be thrown completely out of the window. This is my second year at IUS and my third semester of ceramics. Coming back to the ceramics studio after a long summer break, made me feel a mix of nervousness and excitement.
I am nervous starting a more advanced class than I have previously been in. I know that there are higher expectations for my progress over the semester, and my responsibilities that come with being an advanced class. However, I am excited to get back to working! I am looking forward to pushing myself creatively and building more pieces for my portfolio.
This being the first week of classes, we started off with making clay. Although I have only done this once before, I did not have the opportunity to see the entire process. This time around, I was there from beginning to end. From fishing out clay from the reclaim bin, to cleaning the mixer after removing the fresh clay. I actually enjoyed this process more than I expected. It felt like a great way to appreciate and connect with the work I will be creating this semester. I am excited to start my first project. More on that next week!
