Blog Post #6
So, I did say in my last blog post that I was done with the geometric ceramics project for now… but I definitely did not mean that. I decided that since it had started to dry out that I would paint on some colored slip to add some color to my piece before it became too dry. I chose to do this instead of using a traditional glaze because I wanted to experiment with using the colored slip to create bold, flat colors with less variation. I used black, an off-white, and two different shades of green to give this piece a colorful, but mellow look (if that makes sense).
By next class, the entire piece should be dry enough to put out to be fired in the kiln. I am so excited to see how it turns out! Although this project had been difficult for me, I really appreciate what I’ve been able to learn so I can apply that knowledge to my future pieces! The final result is near.
